Our company has long understood that the only way to truly relax from the hustle and bustle of the city is in nature, leaving all the candles, equipment and phone connections far behind!
We love travelling and rafting on Latvian rivers and this time we even reached Estonia.
The route we would like to share with you was along the Estonian border and one of the stops was on Estonian territory.
The Gauja is the most popular rafting river in our region, but most tourists choose the stretches from Valmer and downstream. Yes, it is worth noting that there are really beautiful views and incredible sand cliffs. But we were always confused by the large number of people on this part of the route, we wanted a bit more privacy and a more relaxed place to rest. So our 4-day route started in Lejasciems just after the last dam on the Gauja. This route is unfortunately not very popular, and for good reason, as the river is very varied on this stretch. At the beginning the Gauja was narrow, but with every kilometre it got wider. The height of the coastline also changed and every day we were surprised with new sights. There were small rapids in some places, but nothing dangerous. So we can safely say that this is a great route for rafting with kids! There are plenty of stopping places, you could stop every 8 kilometres. We came to well maintained and clean resting places and on the Estonian coast we had a real surprise in the form of a sauna, which was open to all hunters and hikers. It is worth noting that the sauna was the perfect end to a long day!
We walked up to 25 kilometres every day. In total, the route was just over 79 kilometres. It was quite easy to find a place to put the cars and carry the boats.
So if anyone is looking for an unusual, beautiful route, we highly recommend THIS route!
We’ll leave you a detailed map of our rafting!
See you on the river!
